GardaLo! the second edition of the Lake Garda Festival

25 August 2023

Strongly desired by the president of the Vittoriale degli Italiani, Giordano Bruno Guerri, as a necessary cultural complement to an area that, although strong in terms of quality and quantity of tourism, still lacked an entertainment offer, GardaLo! returns this year with its second edition to illuminate - literally and otherwise - the harbours of Lake Garda with culture and art.

ARTIST'S LIGHT INSTALLATIONS
In the harbours of Desenzano, Sirmione and Toscolano Maderno, artist Marco Nereo Rotelli has developed a night lighting project that will project - with his own stylistic signature - words and verses by poets that are an invitation to respect the lake and to look at the night through the light of poetry.
The thoughts of great men of letters who have loved Lake Garda will thus create veritable waves of light that will be reflected, echoing one another, among the major harbours of Lake Garda for the entire duration of the Festival, from the evening of Friday 8 September to Sunday 1 October.
A journey through history from Virgil to D'Annunzio, from Catullus to Pound, from Dante to Kafka, from Goethe to Lawrence, creating poetic waves to grow in lightness, verbal waves that induce amazement.
Some ships moored in the harbours will also be illuminated, where light inscriptions will be projected to spread messages of peace and respect for the water.

FLY HIGH, WORD
The night light installation is followed by a daytime one. For the occasion, some boats will be embellished by the artistic installation Vola alta, parola (from a verse by Mario Luzi): 200 small flags inlaid with the words of contemporary poets, again created by Marco Nereo Rotelli with the collaboration of RiVelami, a Made in Italy craft recycling project that since 2014 has been recovering and giving a second life to disused sails by transforming them into design items.
In the installation, the flags are conceived as small sails on their journey towards people and the environment. A circular economy that takes shape and vision in the sign of poetry.
The poets who donated their verses: Silvia Bre, Valentina Colonna, Maurizio Cucchi, Claudio Damiani, Rosalba De Filippis, Paolo Fabrizio Iacuzzi, Valerio Magrelli, Roberto Mussapi, Elisabetta Pigliapoco, Giancarlo Pontiggia, Jean Portante, Loretto Rafanelli, Víctor Rodríguez Núñez, Massimo Silvotti, Emilio Zucchi and Yang Lian.
