As part of the series of meetings entitled ‘Seeds of Sustainability’, set up in the extensive calendar of the Festival of Sustainability on Lake Garda by the L.A.CU.S Association, the fifth edition of ‘Gli Stati Generali della Mobilità Sostenibile sul Garda’ (The States General of Sustainable Mobility on Lake Garda) is scheduled for Saturday, 11 May in Desenzano at Palazzo Todeschini.
This appointment will focus on the need for a unified intervention by the Lombardy Region, the Province of Brescia, and the Garda Community in order to unblock the situation regarding the critical road situation in the Garda area and possibly involve bodies and institutions to implement an Urban Plan for Sustainable Mobility (Pums), also with the collaboration of the Veneto Region and the Autonomous Province of Trento.
As explained in the presentation of the event, ‘Today, four years after the last meeting and with the exacerbation of a series of structural problems such as the increasingly frequent presence of landslides due to climate change that drastically reduce the environmental performance of urban areas the implementation of a tourist cycle-pedestrian project that is unsustainable due to the way it has been designed and also affects the environmental performance of urban areas, the absence of shared solutions among local authorities, we realise that what we have been advocating since the first edition of ‘Gli Stati Generali della Mobilità sostenibile sul Garda’ (The States General of Sustainable Mobility on Lake Garda) is now clearly necessary: a Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan for Lake Garda is needed. Such a PUMS must include as a basic concept intermodality intended as an incentive to the synergic use of several means of transport in order to optimise movement and travel, improving the quality of life by reducing traffic, fuel consumption and noise pollution’.
