Intermodality and tourism, Navigazione Laghi and Trenitalia agreement

15 October 2024

In the frame of the TTG in Rimini, a national reference trade fair for the tourism sector, Navigazione Laghi and Trenitalia (FS Group) presented to the market the high speed-boat collaboration agreement on Lake Garda
A first concrete step to contribute to and encourage the development of an integrated and sustainable mobility and the strengthening of the tourism sector, which is confirmed as the flywheel of the local economy. The panel featured Trenitalia's CEO Eng. Luigi Corradi, the Government Manager of Navigazione Laghi Dr. Marrapodi, and for the Government the Undersecretary to the Presidency of the Council Sen. Alessandro Morelli. The event was moderated by journalist Laura Barth.

Marrapodi (Navigazione): ‘Bringing distant tourists closer’

‘We transport 12 million travellers annually, a figure that continues to grow and shows how the lake destination is now a destination of great national and international interest.’ Pietro Marrapodi, Government Manager of Ente Navigazione Laghi, commented.
‘The agreement signed with the important railway carrier Trenitalia - continues Marrapodi - has precisely the objective of bringing tourists geographically distant from Northern Italy closer to our territories, but who, with a comfortable journey and in a reasonably short time, can reach our lakes and who, with a subsidised fare, can discover their beauty. At the same time, this agreement represents a concrete way of protecting the environment as it provides an incentive for people to leave their cars at home and use public services’.

Corradi (Trenitalia): ‘Sustainable travel with train and boat’.

‘In order to promote and increase tourism, Trenitalia chooses partners that allow an increasingly intermodal and capillary transport system to move forward,’ says Trenitalia CEO Luigi Corradi. ‘The agreement with Gestione Navigazione Laghi, which combines train plus boat travel, goes precisely in this direction. We want to provide a complete service, from the first to the last mile, that allows tourists to reach their destinations in a sustainable way'.

Undersecretary Morelli: ‘Forward in the green transition process

‘The government, in the green transition process that it is gradually taking forward, must not leave anyone behind. Especially those territories that, due to a lack of opportunities, are unable to reach the level of intermodality to which we aspire and to which we refer,' said Undersecretary of State Alessandro Morelli.
The agreement presented today to the press between Gestione Navigazione Laghi and Trenitalia goes in this direction and will make Lake Garda, Lake Maggiore and Lake Como easier to reach, not only by tourists passing through the surrounding areas but also by those coming from all over Italy and Europe, giving a further important boost to our tourism’.
‘An important partnership,’ the Lega Senator concludes, ’which aims to consolidate a fundamental paradigm: working to offer citizens and tourists the possibility of being able to move daily for work or holidays using the intermodal transport offered by the combination of trains and boats.’
