On June 20 in Salò: a Sustainable Walk for the Future of Lake Garda

16 June 2026

Lake Garda and its watershed form a single ecosystem and can no longer be managed as separate entities. Water does not recognize administrative boundaries: addressing the challenges affecting the lake requires a unified, competent, and stable governance structure capable of managing the complexity of a situation that is increasingly worsened by the intense human pressure affecting the entire basin.

Numerous environmental associations have signed a document highlighting the shortcomings of the current management system and submitting specific requests to the Ministry of the Environment: the establishment of a unified governance system for the Sarca-Garda-Mincio basin; the revision of the 2017 Program Agreement, which effectively fragments wastewater management among the three provinces involved; and the launch of a European design competition to develop an innovative strategy for the environmental restoration and purification of the lake.

The Interregional Community for the Protection of Lake Garda extends an invitation to anyone wishing to take part in the event, which will be held in Salò, in Piazza Serenissima, at 5:00 p.m.

The event will provide an opportunity to discuss these issues and the many other challenges affecting our lake, in the belief that its protection requires vision, responsibility, and a shared commitment.
