Safe bathing regulations, controls on the Veronese Garda area

14 August 2024

Over the past few days, the Carabinieri of the Peschiera del Garda and Caprino Veronese Companies, which have jurisdiction over the lake shoreline of the Province of Verona, have launched an intense control and surveillance activity, aimed at ensuring compliance with the regulations governing bathing and navigation safety, with particular reference to all those recreational activities that take place on the lake shore.
In this sense, also considering the peak tourist season, the Carabinieri worked to verify that all the activities carried out on the Lake Garda shoreline (use of public beaches, bathing establishments, boat hire, water sports schools, etc.) are carried out in full compliance with the Beach and Navigation Safety Ordinance issued, for the 2024 summer season, by the Veneto Region on 2 May. The aim is to ensure that tourist-recreational activities can take place in complete safety, both for tourists and local residents.

The presence of rescue services was verified
Specifically, the Carabinieri deployed on the Veneto shore of Lake Garda, also activated an awareness-raising campaign in favour of bathers, providing them with correct and adequate information on how to use the lake waters (e.g. the improper use of jetties or boat landing places).
At the same time, targeted checks were implemented to ascertain the concrete and qualified presence of suitable lifeguard services and the presence of complete life-saving equipment to ensure the safety of bathers.
Also, the verification of the presence of suitable multilingual signage, due to the large number of foreign tourists, which is absolutely necessary to signal any danger to bathers. The operating military officers also verified the presence of buoys delimiting the area where bathers, especially the less experienced ones, can safely stay, thus avoiding any kind of risk.

Checked bathing establishments, boat rentals and campsites
Overall, the Armed Forces have already checked, in addition to the public beaches, 7 bathing establishments, 3 boat rentals, 5 campsites, 4 nautical schools and an amateur and sports association.
The controls will continue unabated and, indeed, will be carried out more frequently until the end of the summer, with the aim of guaranteeing both an efficient safety framework for bathers and yachtsmen, who flock to the shores in this period, and an adequate protection of the environmental heritage that Lake Garda offers.
Violation of these prescriptions provides for the application of administrative sanctions and, in the most serious cases, even criminal sanctions.
