The water quality of Lake Garda is excellent

The monitoring points within each bathing area are selected according to the highest concentration of bathers and the areas most at risk of pollution, taking into account the characteristics of the surrounding territory and the environmental pressures affecting the shoreline. On the ARPA Veneto website, detailed information sheets are available for each bathing area, including the monitoring point data, the physical and geographical characteristics of the area, assessments of environmental impacts and potential sources of pollution that may affect water quality, and a summary of the water quality status.

During the bathing season, which on the Veneto side of Lake Garda runs from 1 May to 30 September, ARPAV carries out water sampling at least once a month to analyse Escherichia coli and intestinal Enterococci, the main indicators of faecal contamination. Environmental parameters such as air and water temperature, wind, currents and wave conditions are measured on site, while visual inspections are also conducted to check for the presence of glass, plastic, rubber and bituminous residues.

Preventive analyses are also performed approximately ten days before the start of the bathing season to confirm that the water is suitable for bathing.

Now, at approximately the halfway point of the 2026 bathing season, the Veneto Regional Councillor for the Environment, Elisa Venturini, stated: "The Veneto shore of Lake Garda enjoys excellent environmental health, as clearly demonstrated by the official monitoring programmes that we continuously carry out across the entire area. Our monitoring network is extensive and rigorous: all 65 official sampling points along the Veneto shoreline of Lake Garda have recorded excellent water quality in every designated bathing area. I would like to reassure both residents and the many tourists who choose our beaches: bathing is safe and fully guaranteed thanks to the continuous sampling carried out by the competent authorities."

This statement dispels any doubts or concerns among those who live, work or spend their holidays on Lake Garda, including tourists, residents, business owners and workers.

These statements confirm the findings released last May by the ATS of Brescia (Health Protection Agency), which also certified the excellent quality of the waters along the Brescia shore of Lake Garda. The area continues to hold the Blue Flag award for the beaches of Sirmione, Gardone Riviera, Toscolano Maderno and Limone sul Garda.
