Toscolano Maderno, supplementary urban hygiene services

03 July 2024

The problem is common to all the towns on the Brescia Riviera, where the impact generated by 8 million presences per year has heavy effects in this field as well: data from Garda Uno say that in the summer months per capita waste increases from 43 to 64 kg/month.
So the administration of mayor Chiara Chimini has taken action to tackle the problem, implementing services already active in the municipal area and introducing new ones.

Wheeled bins on the beaches
First of all, action was taken on the beaches, where 20 240-litre wheeled bins are positioned on Saturday and Sunday, emptied once in the morning and twice in the afternoon.
They may not be pretty to look at, but it is certainly better than the unseemly spectacle of rubbish left on the ground or overflowing from the bins. The bins - positioned at the Lido, the Vialone and the Riva Grande - will remain on the beaches every day in August and the first week of September, with double daily emptying.

Quality Service
Until September, on Sundays, the "Quality Service" is also active in the early afternoon for the recovery of abandoned waste in the areas reported to the call centre. The operator Garda Uno has set up a toll-free number to report inefficiencies and abandonments: 800.033955, active from Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. (at weekends any reports of waste abandonment can be communicated to the Local Police number: 335.5708538).
And again: from March to October, the washing service for paved surfaces in the municipality is active, organised according to priority, while the weekly manual sweeping service has been extended to the new lake promenade that runs from Viale Marconi to the Riva Grande beach.

The wild boar problem
Lastly, a measure was implemented to deal with the problem of wild boars feasting on bags of waste left on the pavements for collection.
On an experimental basis, for users in Via Dosso and Via Sant'Ambrogio, dry waste will be disposed of in dedicated containers made available by the Administration.
