A framed September is looming for tourism on Lake Garda, favoured by above-average temperatures that still allow people to dive into the lake, and by the return of the Germans: together with the Anglo-Saxons they represent the majority of tourists now flocking to the Riviera of Olives. Tail end The data of the Garda Veneto Tourism Observatory portend a promising end to the season. For the current month the trend in hotels is very good, with an occupancy of 85 per cent, slightly higher than the same period in 2022. Looking at the season as a whole, there might be a drop compared to last year's extraordinary results, but the final tail end gives confidence to the whole industry. A contribution to the results of this last phase of the season also comes from the numerous events created at the lake and in its hinterland, which offer an additional incentive to tourists to stay in the Garda area even in September and October. Undoubtedly the "Grape Festival", scheduled in Bardolino from today to 2 October, is the driving force behind this event, which positively influences the hotel booking curve precisely in the days of the event, generating an average increase of 3-4 per cent in the volume of bookings in the village and the surrounding area.
Other examples, albeit with smaller numbers, come from other events, such as 'Ciottolando con gusto' in Malcesine, which was held on 23 and 24 September with a 'sell-out' and thousands of tourists crowding the centre, and from other food and wine and other events organised in the Garda area. Events "Although the beauty of the area and the weather are the determining factors in choosing Garda," notes Ivan De Beni, president of Federalberghi Garda Veneto, "local events are rewarding. Added to this are the extended tourist arrivals with excellent results up to the weekend of 6-8 October, also taking advantage of the fact that in some German Länder schools are not yet open'. Great satisfaction was also expressed by the presidents of the territorial associations of Garda hoteliers. For Peschiera and Castelnuovo, Claudia Speri confirms: "It is a very good September, with excellent occupancy and encouraging projections. Unlike the other months, we notice a greater tendency on the part of customers to plan, booking their stays in good time during this period, which allows us to work better and with less anxiety. September is a month that has been recording good numbers for some time.
The influx due to Marmomac was also good this year. On the same wavelength was the comment of Virginia Torre from Lazise: "September was excellent, the long wave is being reflected until 10 October. The season is getting longer and longer: September is becoming more and more popular, thanks to better temperatures and the eno-gastronomic initiatives proposed by the area'. Also satisfied was Annalaura Salandini from Bardolino, who however underlined a demand from tourists 'slightly lower than in past years'. For Luigi Zermini from Garda and Costermano, September was instead 'glorious'. "The lack of Germans during the season was compensated by the English. The numbers are very good". Confirmations also come from Torri. Mirko Lorenzini comments: "Our area enjoys consolidated bookings well in advance and few last minute bookings, with peak occupancy between 60 and 65 per cent. Until 8 October, we will work well, then everything will be weather-related. Optimism also reigns in Brenzone: "We are working better than in August," reveals Giuditta Isotta. The same goes for Malcesine: "September is very good, with a tendency for customers to book in advance compared to other months," says Vittorio Mazzoldi. "Local food and wine events help us to create engagement and good attendance, especially at weekends". For Corrado Bonetti from San Zeno di Montagna, the weather remains increasingly decisive in September: "This year went well, in line with last year, with bookings made in good time and loyal customers". Meanwhile, Eurostat revealed that in 2021 Verona ranked first in the EU for domestic tourism and in the top 20 for international visitors.
