Garda protagonist at Expo 2025 Osaka

19 November 2024

The Garda Communities among the excellences protagonists at the Italian Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka: internationalization of enterprises and attraction of investments in the territories were among the central themes of the event ‘Lake Garda towards EXPO 2025 Osaka’ (we had announced it here), organized by ICCJ ‘Italian Chamber of Commerce in Japan’ and the Commissioner General for Italy at Expo 2025 Osaka, with the patronage of the Chamber of Commerce of Brescia.

The seminar was attended by Mario Vattani, Commissioner General for Italy at Expo 2025 Osaka, Senator Mariastella Gelmini, President of the Garda Community, and numerous representatives from local institutions and the business world.

Italy's objective at Expo 2025 Osaka is to enhance the value of territorial excellences and Italian entrepreneurial realities that want to project themselves in the Japanese and Asian markets.

Gelmini: ‘Garda in Osaka to grow and qualify’

‘Garda, a vast area in the heart of Europe, has always been a crossroads of peoples, an antechamber to the East and historically at the centre of exchanges and encounters between people and goods,’ said Senator Mariastella Gelmini, President of the Garda Community. ‘In this context, Garda has chosen to present itself at Expo 2025 Osaka to show one of the most dynamic faces of Italy and compare itself with other international experiences, in order to grow, learn and continue to qualify.’

Vattani: ‘Garda excellence of Italian tourism’

‘Lake Garda, one of the excellences of Italian tourism in the world, embraces three territories - Lombardy, Veneto, Trentino -, heterogeneous realities but united by the Italian spirit of know-how that distinguishes us in the world,’ said Amb. Mario Vattani, Commissioner General for Italy at Expo 2025 Osaka.

‘It is important to take advantage of the great global showcase of Expo to make the wealth and variety of our territorial excellences better known in a fast-growing region of the world. Expo 2025 Osaka represents an important opportunity for internationalisation and investment attraction and is a unique chance to stimulate collaborations in the fields of technology, tourism and high craftsmanship.’

Fantoni: ‘Tailor-made packages for the Japanese traveller’

Davide Fantoni, Secretary General of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Japan: ‘Italy has occupied a privileged place in the hearts of the Japanese for decades now, but the concept of travelling in Italy has changed radically over the years. Although both artistic and culinary culture remains the main attraction, today's Japanese prefer to discover new realities, capable of offering unique sensations outside conventional tourist schemes. A reality like Lake Garda and its entourage can offer multiple opportunities to build tailor-made packages for the new Japanese traveller.’

Lake Garda, a symbol of beauty and tradition, represents an ideal bridge between Italy and Japan, uniting the excellence of the two cultures. Every year, the Lake attracts millions of tourists, many of them Japanese, confirming the importance of this area as a global reference point. The theme of Expo 2025 Osaka, ‘Designing the future society for our lives’, fits perfectly with the values that Lake Garda represents: internationalisation, sustainability and innovation. The Lake, which embraces three Italian regions - Lombardy, Veneto and Trentino - is an example of quality of life, well-being and culture, with a long tradition of trade with the East.

Expo 2025 Osaka from 13 April to 134 October 2025

Expo 2025 will be held in Osaka from 13 April to 13 October 2025 and has the theme ‘Designing future societies for our lives’. The Italian Pavilion, designed by architect Mario Cucinella, interprets it with ‘Art regenerates life’.

Among the speakers was Japanese market expert Tricerri Lara ‘The key to maximising visibility is to create a network of public and private collaboration. Local institutions must work hand in hand with the Lake's tourism, cultural and agricultural enterprises to develop a cohesive and innovative marketing strategy that highlights the region's natural beauty and cultural heritage.

Cobelli: ‘Sustainability and development coexist on Lake Garda’

Marcello Cobelli, President's delegate of the Garda Community for cultural aspects, who oversaw the organisation at the Chamber of Commerce in Brescia, concludes: ‘Lake Garda wants to be an example of how natural beauty and culture can coexist with sustainability and innovation. Our message is that it is possible to live in harmony with nature while promoting economic and cultural development. We intend to stand out for our ability to integrate tradition and the future, with a focus on the environment and people's wellbeing'.
