Bardolino. At the open-air cinema to rediscover oneself and the places of the heart, re-tune to one's passions, make community. Tasting wines and dishes from the Garda tradition. Meeting live actors, directors, and renowned book authors, amidst a painting exhibition dedicated to water, an opera performance, and a parade of vintage cars that have made cinema history.
Images and words. Everything is ready for the fourth edition of the Bff Bardolino Film Festival- Images, Sounds and Words on Water, organised by the municipality and the Bardolino Top Foundation under the artistic direction of Franco Dasssisti, which will turn the spotlight on Lake Garda from 19 to 23 June. Scheduled between the lakeside and Carrara Bottagisio Park are five evenings of auteur films, two film competitions with short films and documentaries from all over the world, appointments with guests such as Margherita Buy, Neri Marcorè, Luca Barbareschi, Marco Leonardi, Fotinì Peluso, and Galatea Bellugi, up to the special screening for children and young people of ‘Mary and the Midnight Spirit’ by Enzo d'Alò, who also signed the poster for this edition, the homage to ‘Non ci resta che piangere’ with Iris Peynado, and literary meetings with authors including actor Vinicio Marchioni in his debut as a writer and former footballer Filippo Galli, a pillar of the great Milan of Sacchi and Capello.
Culture and tourism. Among the novelties was the pre-opening evening, Tuesday 18 June, at the porticciolo di bardolino, with a performance by baritone Paolo Cantieri in a roundup of soundtracks and songs from the most famous films (programme on www.bardolinofilmfestival.it). The Bff was presented in the Cantina Zeni barricade, in Bardolino, by the mayor Lauro Sabaini, who defined it as ‘a niche event that combines culture and tourism, bringing big names and signatures’ by the councillor for culture and education Domenica Currò and artistic director Dassisti. Two hundred shorts and documentaries arrived at the competition jury, from 33 countries on four continents, testifying to its growing success. Thirty-seven were selected and competing in this edition, whose theme is ‘Finding oneself’. ‘The competition is the heart of the event and what sets it apart from the exhibition,’ explains Dassisti. ‘This year, the selection was particularly difficult, due to the high quality of the works that arrived from the Americas, Asia and Australia’.
‘Finding oneself’. What unites them, continues the artistic director, is the exploration of the theme chosen for the 2024 playbill ‘to make our own a need felt in a society that runs, in which we sometimes lose our way. To find ourselves is to look inside ourselves, to find the places that belong to us or someone dear to us'. Excited Councillor Currò, whose five-year mandate is drawing to a close: ‘This festival, born from a personal passion and an idea of mine, has been able to grow over time, becoming a leading event for Lake Garda and beyond,’ she emphasised. "The Bardolino Film Festival is much more than a cultural moment and quality entertainment: it also provides an opportunity for the community to grow and a tool to promote the area. My wish,' Currò concludes, ’is that the next administration will continue to propose it and make it grow.
