The Italian Red Cross Committee of Bardolino-Baldo-Garda has gained a new support for rescue in the waters of the lake. The new water ambulance arrived thanks to the 'Lago sicuro' project, which has been active on the Veronese shores of Lake Garda for many years now.
The Bardolino Red Cross project consists in the coordination of all associations and organisations working for the safety of the lake. This ensures greater efficiency and better use of rescue means. As a result of the increasing demand for rescue operations, the Bardolino ICRC decided to invest in new equipment to ensure even greater safety.
The memorandum of understanding with the three 118 operational centres operating on the lake (Verona, Brescia and Trento), the synergy with the other bodies operating on the lake (Coast Guard, Fire Brigade, Police, Carabinieri and voluntary associations), the support of the Veneto Region, and the participation of many Garda municipalities, companies and citizens, made this project possible.
The synergy was possible thanks to common interests. In fact, we must remember that the tranquillity of residents and tourists ensures our beaches are more competitive.
Being the only sanitary means active on the Veronese shore, it is necessary to equip ourselves with increasingly innovative and sophisticated equipment. And so the new vehicle, a concentrate of technology, is at the service of both rescued people and rescuers, guaranteeing high standards of resistance, speed and shock absorption. The bow has been designed to dock easily at jetties and facilitate the up and down of the crew, and a crane at the stern ensures the recovery of casualties even in complicated conditions.
The equipment on board is state-of-the-art. There is a lifepack monitor, a cardiac massager, two oxygen cylinders and other aids. Equipment for navigation in poor visibility and radio equipment complete the picture.
